Sustainability initiative from Bursa Cement
Bursa Cement, the leading institution of the cement sector, sets an example with its environment and technology-oriented works. The company, which has added value to Bursa and the country's economy since the day it was founded, also receives support from its stakeholders with the environmental projects it has implemented.
Bursa Cement, which carries out quality works in its sector, continues to receive support with the projects it has implemented in line with the importance it attaches to the environment.
Bursa Cement General Manager Osman Nemli pointed out that they show great sensitivity to the development of the region and to the protection of the environment, and said that in this context, they pressed the button for investment in environment and technology in their existing factories.
Nemli stated that it is not technically possible to achieve the targeted environmental and sustainable results with the improvements to be made on the existing machine park in the company, which has been modernized 4 times and said, “Therefore, we are implementing a new investment. We plan to complete our 120 million Euro investment in the first quarter of 2023. The Paris Agreement and the Green Agreement processes, which are especially on the agenda, have been among our main targets since the first investment was planned. We are actually implementing an internal improvement project with the investment made to include the factory among the facilities of the future. We are not aiming for a capacity increase here, but for a more environmentally friendly and innovative approach.”
Nemli stated that after the completion of the investment, some of the existing production lines will be completely dismantled, and the remaining part will be preserved as spares.
Inert materials will be brought into the economy
Stating that the investment has many advantages, Nemli said, “There is no capacity increase in our project. All return on investment calculations were made on the current capacity. In other words, the same production amount will be realized with less equipment. By replacing the product and/or raw material wastes that are thrown into the nature with the input raw materials of the process, the amount of raw materials used from nature will be reduced, and inert materials will be brought into the economy. It is aimed to reduce the use of natural raw materials by up to 20%”.
Indicating that there will be a 10% reduction in the fuel and electrical energy used in clinker production, Nemli said that in the process, where the energy need from combustion is met with imported and domestic coal, with the targeted 80% secondary fuel burning capacity, the wastes that are thrown into the nature will be transformed into energy and the foreign trade deficit originating from imported coal will be met. He said he would make a positive contribution.
Sustainable growth approach
Bursa Cement General Manager Osman Nemli, who draws attention to the fact that they will rise to a leading position in the sector in digital transformation with the latest technology machinery and software park to be used, said, “At the end of the project, the total indoor stock area will increase 4-6 times. In addition, it is aimed to gradually reduce CO2 emissions from combustion by up to 35%, environmental dust emissions by up to 25%, total water consumption by 10% and NOx emissions by 40%.
Emphasizing that they have given great importance to the environment and technology since the day they were established, Nemli noted that they continue to move forward with the understanding of sustainable growth. "We are always taking future-oriented steps," said Nemli, and continued: "With our new investment, we will use the best technologies in the world. As an exemplary factory in our sector, we will continue to contribute to our city of birth and the country's economy.”
